Mater Hospital Sydney and our sister hospital St Vincent’s Private Darlinghurst have partnered with TAFE Queensland to deliver an on-site Diploma of Nursing (HLT54115) program. Our hospital group is a recognised leader in education and research, with a strong emphasis on growing our own highly skilled nursing and management teams.

Start your nursing career with a Diploma of Nursing (HLT54115) qualification. This course is the essential minimum requirement to work as an Enrolled Nurse. 

The course will give you the skills to perform clinical assessments, contribute to nursing care of people with complex needs, administer and monitor medications and IV therapy, research and apply evidence to practice. Our highly-experienced industry professionals will guide you every step of the way to ensure your transition into the health sector is a success.

Clinical placement occurs on both early shifts (0700-1530hrs) and late shifts (1350hrs – 2200hrs), night duty opportunities may arise towards the end of the program. Clinical placements will be throughout our acute care (excluding maternity), critical care and perioperative environments.

You are also required to attend and complete mandatory hospital orientation and e-learning.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to seek registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as an Enrolled Nurse.

  • 18 month full time course - 3 days per week 
  • Initially up to 12 weeks face to face classroom learning, on site at the Mater Hospital.
  • Followed by 3 days per week integrated face-to-face and vocational placement (hands-on patient care learning) plus an online study component
  • All clinical placements offered by Mater Hospital or St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney

Entry Criteria

  • Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) English Language Skills Criteria
  • Education requirements – Higher School Certificate OR Certificate III qualification
  • For TAFE Queensland entry requirements and cost of this course, go to https://tafeqld.edu.au/st-vincents  (Australian Citizens and Residents may be able to gain a Commonwealth supported position, reducing the cost.)

We would also like to support students in this program by offering alternative employment within the hospital whilst studying, although this employment would not be as an enrolled nurse.
