Dr Gooden is a fellowship trained Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in surgery of the hip and knee and Orthopaedic trauma. He has a particular interest in hip and knee joint replacement as well as arthroscopic and ligament reconstruction of the knee.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (Honours) from the University of Sydney in 2001 and then completed his advanced training in Orthopaedic Surgery through the Australian Orthopaedic Association, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2010.
On completing his Orthopaedic training, Doctor Gooden undertook post-fellowship training in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty at the Klinikum Emil von Behring Hospital, Berlin, Germany. On returning to Sydney he completed a further fellowship in Orthopaedic trauma, hip and knee arthroplasty at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney.
In addition to his medical qualifications, Dr Gooden has completed a Science degree with First Class Honours in Physiology at the University of Adelaide and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Surgery through the University of Sydney. His PhD thesis dealt with the mechanisms of tendon and cartilage degeneration.
Dr Gooden has appointments in both the private and public hospital systems and is actively involved in the education of medical students and Orthopaedic trainees. He operates at the Mater Private Hospital, Sydney Adventist Hospital, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital and additionally consults at the Stadium clinic in Moore Park.
